In the past, most of my research has been conducted in a solo situation by myself. Performing this task in a group was nice due to the fact that I was able to split the required material into 5 portions and delegate a part to each group member, alleviating the load that would be present in a one man operation. I believe that a few of my members were weak researchers and writers at the beginning of the project, but with a little help, they were able to grasp the concept of how to write an annotative bibliography.
What do you feel your group members have gained from the experience?
I feel that my group members also gained experience in the field of gathering research. For a few of them, this was a new concept, and learned a lot. One of my group members was new to presenting verbally, however, she informed me of this after she chose the role of speaker. I feel that she need some improvement, but at the same time it was valuable practice that will help her in the long run.
How has participating in this project increased or enhanced your learning or understanding of writing or research?
Before completing this project, I had already performed extensive research numerous times, and have performed many presentations in the past. However, it is always beneficial to practice, and I feel that I get better every time.
How has this project increased your understanding about the text?
This project has been very beneficial leading into the reading of Frankenstein. I have not only gained insight about the author and the creation of the text, but have also gained a certain level of excitement. I now know the underlying context and will be able to grasp the concepts more efficiently, and with that have gained a sense of relief.
What were your contributions to the project?
As team leader, I split the material into sections and delegated a portion to everyone in the group, including myself. I started by researching EBSCO via PCC Shatford Library in order to locate potential scholarly articles that contained information on the life of Mary Shelley. Upon finding a valid article, I completed my portion of the group’s required annotative bibliography. Upon completion, I took time to ensure that everyone else in the group was on track, and understood the project. Once everyone completed their portions, I compiled the information and put it into the proper format and send it to the editor for the final touches. Upon completion of the annotative bibliography, I typed up key points of my portion of the research (Shelley’s birth and early childhood) and sent it to the speakers to help them prepare for their speech. Lastly, I provided minor aid in the creation of the visual/powerpoint.
